The second building at the University of North Texas Dallas was designed to be both flexible and functional to meet current needs for students, faculty and staff, while allowing the campus to expand its curriculum and services. The completion of this building was vital in allowing the institution to expand into a full four year academic program and to become a standalone campus within the UNT system. Designed and constructed in only 18 months, Overland worked closely with the UNT System to stay within the aggressive schedule and come in under budget. The project establishes a hierarchy of public space and sets the tone for the campus as it expands through the development of the main plaza, courtyards, and pedestrian sidewalks. The building’s program spaces are organized around public and circulation spaces.
This LEED Gold certified building integrates natural and sustainable systems into the new campus core, including: water collection, daylighting and photovoltaic solar electrical power.
